I think it’s very apt that Barack Obama got a HACK to do his portrait. I don’t care if it’s accepted in the art world that artists have laborers. Artists like Mark Kostabi and Jeff Koons started that mass production art and were highly criticized by the art world at the time for being hacks. They still ARE hacks. It’s not true art. The artist must do it themselves. That’s what makes it valuable and one of a kind. Andy Warhol treads a fine line. He at least had an original, done by him, then he had prints, of lesser value. I can’t really call him a hack. But I will say he started that trend of cheap thrill pop art.
